Artwork Statement:
“Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere, they are in each other all along.” -Rumi
“This piece was inspired by this quote and love that is not confined by place, time, or season. My work is often about quiet self-reflection, but sometimes we can learn more about ourselves from those who love us most.
Growing from each island are flora & fauna that bloom or flourish in that specific season. I love to research and learn more about the patterns of nature with every piece that I paint. This process helps me better understand the world around me and informs my appreciation for everyday life.
Finally, the topographical map that spans across these two panels depicts the Colombia River and Multnomah Falls in Oregon. Once, after I hiked to the top of the falls, time stood very still as I watched the water float slowly in the air to the ground below. This was the feeling I wanted to explore, starting with this location and experience as a foundation.”
Artist Biography:
Emiko Woods was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA and received her BFA from Azusa Pacific University, with a Minor in Art History. After graduation, she moved with her husband to Saint Gallen, Switzerland, where she currently resides. In addition to her work in Fine Art and Illustration, she is also freelance graphic designer.
As a trained sculptress with a newfound love of painting, her most recent work incorporates the two. She has always been drawn to elements found in nature that convey aspects of internal journey, place, and connectedness. Each piece begins with a question and through the process of making, enlightenment unfolds.
She loves researching new things, journaling, poetry, and traveling as much as possible.
Artist Statement:
COME CLOSE
Remember a time when your stillness spoke to you. When you felt so whole, your chest heaved with the weight. A time when simplicity, was the greatest pleasure of all.
LISTEN
We all have an inner voice. The one that tells us to pursue truth & beauty, and to never let go of what we knew as a child. The one that dares us to find our strength in vulnerability. The one that beg us to journey deeper and reminds us that we are never lost.
DISCOVER
This pursuit is my greatest hope. To uncover the mysteries that reside within this space that is internal at its source and manifests itself through nature, symbols, and rituals. Journey with me as I make these connections, uncover quiet truths, and explore the one-ness that connects us all.
