Artist Biography:
In the spring of 1999, Roland Tamayo earned his BFA in Illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. After enjoying a career in the video game industry as a Concept Artist, working on series such as Sony’s Ratchet And Clank and Resistance: Fall Of Man franchises, Roland now focuses on his gallery, freelance, and commission work. He enjoys combining man made objects with nature, and natures’ creatures with each other, creating playful Juxtapositions which tell stories conceived from his personal experiences since childhood, and the love and inspiration drawn from his family.
Artist Statement:
My wife and I had always hoped and dreamed to have children. Driving to the hospital for their delivery, we passed by this bridge that I must have driven by hundreds of times. But for some reason it really captured my interest that day. In a day that was filled with excitement, time slowed down for me, appreciating each moment along the way. I also knew I eventually wanted to include this bridge in a piece of art. I’m excited to show this piece with Flower Pepper Gallery in Pasadena, the same city where this bridge belongs, which represents hope fulfilled and the day of the birth of my twin boys.
I choose Blue Whales for my piece. On the endangered species list, these beautiful creatures and our biggest animal were almost hunted to extinction.
