Interview Script:
“Hi, I’m Mandy Cao. I’m here at Flower Pepper Gallery with my piece, “A Place Only You Know”.
Is there a story behind this painting?
“I had a dream about me and my friend going to a really weird place, and when I woke up, I called her, and told her the dream. She said you should totally paint it, and here it is!”
Can you talk about your creative process?
“When I first have an idea of the painting, I will sketch a really rough sketch in my sketch book. I will then take reference photos, normally of trees and flowers. Also, when I go out, I will take some photos of me, my friends, or anyone on the street. Finally, when I go home, I will put them together, do a really well sketch, and then I will paint it.”
Do you have any favorite artists?
“I love James Jean’s work, Luke Kong, and Alex Gross.”
“I am a full time artist right now, I enjoy working in oils, and hope you enjoy this painting!”

“Documentary and gritty, this smells like the real deal. One of the best paintings of a dirty sink I have ever seen. We’ve all been in this bathroom, alas.”
