Artist Biography:
Peter Hamlin’s work addresses implications of far reaching technological shifts. Peter makes painting to explore this with forms of storytelling and myth-making. Through curiosity and humor he imagines spaces where new lifeforms and consciousnesses emerge to blur boundaries. The work is a celebration of potential in all of us to go beyond.
Peter lives and works in Brooklyn.
Process:
“I make things I ‘see’ internally and externally to communicate layered perceptions and concepts. My work springs from an interest in our need for making meaning, driving forces and notions of progress, and our capacities to extend beyond practical function. Organic imagery, color, anthropomorphic shapes, Eastern and Western informed iconographies, technological figures and robotic appendages are aspects of compositions to evoke connotations, to challenge, and ask questions. These forms allow for various reads and the viewer can bring their own experience to the work for an individual interpretation.” – Peter Hamlin
