Artist Biography & Statement:
Virginie was born in Brittany, France, she currently lives in Carlsbad, CA.
After a degree in Design and Fine Art from Penninghen in Paris and few years working as an Interior Designer for advertising and cosmetics company, Virginie realized that there was no room for what was the most important to her: creativity, imagination and self accomplishment.
Inspired by her daughter’s playful, free and innocence, she decided to pursue a path that allows her creative spirit to soar.
“Who on Earth declared that growing up from the fantasy world of your youth to the real world of adulthood should be like boarding the train of time with a one-way ticket?
Virginie Mazureau gives you the chance to revisit these transitional moments to appreciate their colors with the benefit of hindsight – and a furry panda eye mask!
While her work is personal and inspired by watching her daughter grow into a beautiful young woman, her art appeals to feelings which are universal.
Turning 15 does not freeze time. A cocktail of anticipation and apprehension at becoming more grown up makes savouring the last carefree moments of childhood somewhat a private affair. An adult-in-the-making keeps the prickly world of responsibilities at bay, hanging on dearly to the cuddly plush toys cherished since the very first birthday. Yet time is ticking and imaginary creatures are singing: it will soon be time to let go of your blankie, say the Dream Whisperers! To which Virginie Mazureau offers an imaginative solution: she paints bunny under a skateboard so you can still act cool without fully letting go of all the small heroes which made you feel invincible.
Well versed in what Japanese people call kawaii (cuteness), Virginie Mazureau paves the road to the future with softness and cuddlies, encouraging you to walk through life straight from the wonderlands of the illustrated books you read. She reveals the dream quality of a time so personal we almost forgot its many colors.
Look into Virginie Mazureau’s art, it will transport you to a world where you won’t need any anti-age face cream!” by Ingrid Westlake
